Dr Ariel Marcy

Ariel started her scientific career at Stanford University, where she specialised in evolutionary biology and functional morphology (the study of organic shapes). In 2014, she came to Australia on a Fulbright Scholarship to research this continent’s unusual mammals. She went on to complete a PhD on Australia’s native rodents at the University of Queensland.

Throughout her research career, Ariel pursued ways to teach science. This includes teaching undergraduates at Stanford, University of Queensland and Queensland University of Technology. She also designs educational science games. Her interest in teaching has led her to publish peer-reviewed articles on science communication and evidence-based instructional practices for STEM.

Ariel joined CSIRO Publishing in 2023 as a science journalist for Double Helix and Cosmos, writing over 250 science news articles.

Steve Danczak

Dr Steve Danczak has dedicated the last 15 years to teaching, science communication and professional develop at several Australian universities. In 2018 he completed a PhD in chemistry education with a focus on critical thinking. Steve joined CSIRO Publishing in 2022 as a scientific workshop facilitator and recently returned from CSIRO Education and Outreach. Steve applies adult education research to facilitate learning environments where participants can challenge themselves.
